Introduction to LIFT’s Leadership Learning Process
LIFT is a force to improve the quality of leadership in Ireland – from the kitchen table to the classroom; and from the classroom to the boardroom. The learning process used by LIFT is based on principles that have been used to successfully develop leadership all over the world.
LIFT Ireland’s learning process is based on eight key leadership values. Each week, for a total of eight weeks, a certified facilitator guides a roundtable of 4-6 individuals through a specific leadership value. Using a proven systemic approach, the members of each roundtable reflect on what that value means to them and how they can improve in this area.
Central to LIFT’s learning process are the roundtable groups. While undertaking the LIFT leadership programme, roundtable group sessions take place once a week. If group sizes are kept to a maximum of six people, these sessions usually take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
At LIFT Ireland, our goal is to affect positive leadership change in Ireland. The best way to drive change nationwide is for schools and organisations, big and small, to buy into a system that works. LIFT’s leadership learning process takes only eight 30 minute sessions to complete. That four hours can positively shape our communities, parents, children, and businesses.
Who is it for?
LIFT is for everyone. Being a leader isn’t about having a title, position of authority or ranking. You don’t have to be a captain, manager or CEO. We believe that all of us are leaders. No matter our role in life, we can all lead by example and set standards for ourselves and others.
- Become a friend – We keep you posted on our progress and invite you to future LIFT events.

Roundtable Introduction
LIFT roundtables are simple yet, at the same time, can be incredibly profound. Each roundtable, of 4-6 people per group, is impartially lead by a certified facilitator.
During each session, a roundtable group will read specially assigned material exploring one of the course’s eight leadership values. During a series of subsequent action steps, participants are encouraged to share their opinions in a completely unbiased, non-judgemental environment. The 30 minute round table sessions are designed to allow the space for each member to fully reflect on what specific leadership values mean to them.
Leadership Values
LIFT’s leadership learning process is based on eight key leadership values. Included are: Listening, Positive Attitude, Respect, Competence, Dedication & Determination, Empathy & Understanding, Accountability, and Honesty & Integrity.
These values were identified through national and independently-run surveys. During this period of research, national representative samples of the Irish population were asked to list the leadership attributes they felt our country needed to develop most. LIFT’s learning process was therefore developed by uniquely democratic means.
Two-Minute Survey
One of our goals is to constantly improve our leadership learning process. In 2018, our eight leadership values were identified during a national, independently-run survey. Now, we want to build on that research with the help of our community members.
Whether you are a friend of LIFT or first-time visitor, we invite to complete a quick, two-minute survey on leadership values. It’s very simple and your feedback will help us to improve the quality of leadership in Ireland.
Thank you all for your help!
